The symposium aimed to review the progress made, address the challenges, and develop effective strategies and approaches to strengthen initiatives on advancing the WPS agenda in the region.
Main Objectives included to:
- Strengthen accountability to implement WPS commitments and share experiences on implementation of the WPS agenda and NAPs, lessons learned on WPS from East and Southern Africa and globally from Compact signatories.
- Create a platform for women to highlight the importance of their participation and representation in prevention of conflict, conflict resolution and engagement in new emerging threats.
Identify and inspire innovative methodologies to advance national implementation strategies and partnerships. - Encourage greater participation in local, national, and regional processes through consultations on issues pertaining to women, peace, and security.
Explore Compact Actions and the Principles of Transformation as a framework for impact on peace and security. - Develop recommendations for future initiatives to accelerate implementation of the WPS agenda in the region and WPS-HA commitments to be considered for the regional Beijing+30 review process.
