Kenya kick-started preparations for the annual convention of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in earnest by launching a national steering committee and a draft report of the country's progress in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BDPfA) 1995.

The National Planning Committee (NPC) will gather evidence on the country's performance on the 12 critical areas for reporting during the sixty-ninth session of CWS to be held in March, 2025, in New York. CSW69 will also coincide with the commemoration of thirty years since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 1995.

In a statement read on her behalf by Secretary Gender Dr. Josephine Obonyo, PS Anne Wang'ombe reiterated Kenya's commitment to regional and international instruments on gender equality, urging for concerted efforts to position Kenya as a global champion for gender equality & empowerment.

The steering committee brings together state and non-state actors due to the cross-cutting nature of gender issues.
